Fetal doppler?

Updated: Aug 2, 2023

A fetal doppler is a medical instrument used to listen to the fetal heartbeat. It is an ultrasound device used to detect and measure the baby’s heartbeat. This device is ideally used for women in their second trimester of pregnancy. These devices are portable and safe to use as they do not carry the harmful effects of radiation.

How does a fetal doppler work?

Each fetal doppler contains a transducer or a probe which sends out short pulses of ultrasound sound waves into the directed area of the body. When these sound waves are reflected from the baby’s beating heart, their frequency changes. When this echo is received by the fetal doppler, it converts this signal into the baby’s heartbeat.

What are some tips for using a fetal doppler?

  • Get in position: Start by lying down or sitting in a comfortable position and pushing your uterus as far forward as you can. Having a full bladder can help, especially if your doctor has told you that you have a tilted uterus (in this case you may not even hear the heartbeat at all.

  • Apply ultrasound gel: Apply a blob of ultrasound gel on your lower belly.

  • Use the device: Stick the probe in the ultrasound gel and turn the device on. Rock the probe, slowly moving and gliding it to cover every inch of your belly. Stop when you’ve detected your baby’s heartbeat.

What is the price range of a fetal doppler?

The price of a fetal doppler depends on the brand and features of the device. Normally, the price ranges between INR 3500 to INR 40K.

To write a content on this is not easy because there will be a lot of information. So tried to inform a Non-tech person in a very superficial way. Thank you.
